Professionalism is the key to
your success in the beauty industry. It
doesn't matter if you are the spa owner or the nail technician.
Everyone is equal when it comes to your salon's reputation locally as well
as nationally.
Impeccable grooming cannot be overstated.
This is the beauty business that we are talking about. So not only
must you be neat and clean, you should be a reflection of how your client wants
to appear. That's why they are coming to you. A major part of the
trust that is established with your client is within the first few seconds.
They size you up and say to themselves either "yes, I've come to the right
place" or "this is going to be a waste of my time and money." If you take
the time to put yourself together beautifully every day, your job will be much
easier in turning today's client into a lifetime client.
Attitude is
everything. We've all met attractive people that
have turned ugly before our eyes because of their own bad attitudes. Even
if you have many services going on, a phone call waiting, and you missed your
lunch break, greet every client with warmth and sincerity. Every client
should feel as if they are the only client that you have. If you don't
make them feel that way, they will go down the street where they will
feel that way. Clients will tolerate a lot if you treat them with the
respect that they deserve. If you are not a people person, you are in the
wrong business.
Knowing
when to talk is just as important as what you say.
Each client has her own reason for why she came to see
you. Figuring out what that reason is should be easy... if you just listen.
There are the clients that came with the sole purpose of relaxing and
unwinding. These are clients that want to go inside of themselves,
and not be bothered with having to think about conversing. Often
these clients will tell you that they are there to relax, or they will
close their eyes as if to say, leave me alone. They might even open
up a book or magazine while you work on them. If you
try to bring these people into conversation you are just being selfish.
Conversely, there are those that don't want to think about their lives,
yet they want to hear all about yours. And then there are the clients
that want to fill up the time with free flowing conversation mixed with
moments of silence. Feel free to talk, as long as you truly feel that they
are interested. Use your instincts, and remember, this is their
time, not yours. You are giving a service. When it's your time
to relax and receive your service, hopefully the person giving it
to you will have your best interest at heart as well.
Be an expert in
your field. Are you able to answer most of the
questions that your clients ask of you? If not, start becoming an
authority in your field by educating yourself. Don't wait for classes to
come to you. It's up to you to find out what you don't know. When
you can answer the majority of questions that are asked on a weekly basis, your
confidence will go up and so will your profits. Visit your library, get on
the internet, go to where the information is and learn it. It's as simple
as that. Laziness never paid off for anyone.
Ask yourself this question... "If
you went somewhere to receive a beauty treatment, would you want to be served by
you, or someone more professional?" |
